The Chinese Almanac - The Chinese Know Everything Book
The Chinese almanac has been in use for many centuries and has been relied upon by people since long before the birth of Christ. Known in China as the Tung Shu, it is called the Tong Sing by the Cantonese speaking people in Hong Kong. This is for the very reason that in Cantonese the word Shu sound too similar to a similar word meaning failure but in contrast, Sing sounds like victory.
The name, when interpreted, means the book of everything, which is an apt name because this particular almanac consists of forty seven sub sections. For countless centuries people have referred to the Chinese almanac for guidance regarding everything from the right time to plant crops, or for auspicious days to begin new ventures or to avoid specific activities.
The Tong Sing covers a wide variety of subjects, providing information on every topic from palmistry, geomancy, fortune telling, herbal medicine and even includes a pregnancy chart. It includes a guide on moral codes, how to operate a small business successfully, physiognomy information, poetry and how to make charms or talismans.
The first version of the Chinese almanac was rather simplified, but over time it has grown into a very comprehensive guide to life. The earliest recorded current version of the Tong Sing was compiled in the Qing dynasty, over two hundred years ago and has been in print for that long.
Each almanac is packed with useful information about Feng Shui for the coming year and ways to implement this art around your home and office for increased abundance in all aspects of your life. Feng Shui is a much practiced art in the East and is slowly growing in popularity in the West.
The almanac contains a forecast for your personal fortune according to your Chinese zodiac for the coming year. It will also have available the listed times for sunrise and sunset for all twenty four sub seasons for the coming solar year. You can also check your auspicious dates which are geared to coincide with specific activities.
In the Orient families will still plan their daily activities around the Chinese almanac, picking auspicious days for certain events and steering clear of doing particular activities if the almanac advises against it. Farmers plant their crops according to the advice given in the almanac and people refer to it for traditional medicine.
Chinese astrological forecasts are referred to often during the year, as is information on personality interpretation and the ancient art of face reading. There are poems, information on lunar and solar eclipses and speaking of which, there is even a Yin Yang calendar noting the coming lunar and solar year.
