Unusual gifts ideas for Christmas
Our summer has gone, and who would argue with that. Whether it ever arrived is debatable, but with fading light at 6pm and the clocks soon to slip back - winter will soon be upon us. Christmas comes with the onset of winter, and with it the pantomimes to reflect the fetivie season. I am really referring to the pantomime of shopping for presents, althought I love the traditional Christmas pantomime with its familiar cries of 'he's behind you'.
All the big money is still going to go on electricals and clothing, with the big boys preparing to cope with the massive demand at this time of the lyear. Life is so easy for consumers as a result of the Internet, but has arguably stunted the experience of the human contact within a shop.
I am amazed at the seasonal interest in buddha statues, which come in a variety of different sizes and shapes. Maybe they have a calming effect as you absorb the 'karma' that they exude after a long day in the office! These artifacts have been objects of worship for years, and maybe would end up being worshipped by a happy recipient of one for Christmas.
Old fashioned telephones now appear to be everywhere, with a growing market online. Don’t tell my neighbour, as he is not even aware that his ‘museum piece’ ever went out of fashion! But these retro phones are seriously cool, combining the nostalgia of a bygone era with the modern advances in telephonic engineering.
But things wouldn't be the same without the ubiquitous hot water bottle to warm away the cold winter nights that are around the corner. I can never remember hot water bottles being anything other than functional rubber bags, discarded for the majority of the year. But they are all now very trendy, and can be bought in a variety of colours and shapes making great Christmas presents.
